Thanks to Paul LeDrew and Wayne Nicholson for contributing to the 2 clips below. They both are teachers at George Brown College in Toronto. Wayne was recently elected the president of Ontario Association of the Deaf (OAD) and works as a teacher in the Interpreting Program at GBC. Paul has worked as a teacher in the literacy field for many years.
Kudos!

Beautifully delivered. One thing…I want to mention about the Gallaudet-Cogswell statue. Alice is holding a book next to her heart. Very symbolic! The manual alphabet opens up literacy of all the Deaf. By telling about Alice holding the book on her chest, your presentation will become more complete. Thanks to all of you, my dearest friends!

Very impressively delivered! Wayne’s presentation convincingly tells us why Gallaudet University is very very important to Deaf communities and people around the world! Paul, one of my old classmates and old friend provided a clip about a hearfelt rally by his students!

I am a hearing ITP student in Spokane, WA. I didn’t know why the protest was all about until watching these videos. Gallaudet is a very important link between the deaf and deaf culture and language. Deaf education is under attack in the mainstreamed schools here. Many here do not understand ASL because of signed english in the schools. If Gallaudet were to close, it would be like the last bastion of deaf culture being lost. I love ASL and hope that it continues for a long, long time.
